CLASSES

 

Our program registration remains open year-round*, in addition to offering a variety of open classes for all ages and levels. There is an annual registration fee of $45 for all students registering in any of our programs. Student placement is required for all levels of ballet classes. For up-to-date class tuition, schedules and descriptions, please create an account and log in to our iClassPro portal. 

 

Email is the best way to get a hold of our staff. If you are new to us, please make sure to subscribe to our e-mail blasts when creating a new account on iClassPro. You will receive school-related communication via e-mail including rehearsal schedule, schedule changes, school closures, inclement weather, holidays, and school updates.

*ECB follows the Renton School District Calendar for holiday and school closures throughout the calendar year.

Children's Program

The Children’s Program introduces our youngest students to their very first steps in a creative, inspiring, and supportive environment. It includes Creative Movement (ages 3-4), Pre-Ballet (ages 5-6), & Beginning/Intermediate Jazz (ages 8-12). The program introduces children to basic dance concepts like tempo, level, direction, and range of motion. These concepts are key to developing critical thinking, motor skills, and creativity. Students enrolled in this program must be potty trained. Placement is not required.

Creative Movement

Ages 3-5

Children in Creative Movement will learn basic ballet movements, musicality, and coordination through fun activities that engage the full body in a group setting. Class is structured to allow children to explore dance concepts through a variety of storytelling, seasonally-themed activities. If your child won't stop twirling around the house, this is the class for them! (Must be 3 by September 1, 2024, and fully potty-trained)

Pre-Ballet

Ages 5-6

In Pre-Ballet class, students will continue learning basic ballet fundamentals and developing their skills of coordination. Students will learn fundamental positions and  exercises as well continue to deepen their sense of coordination and musicality. This class is great for children who won’t stop dancing around the house!

Beginning/Intermediate Jazz

Ages 8-12

Rooted in African traditions, Jazz dance incorporates a wide range of styles including elements of African America vernacular styles, lyrical, commercial, Broadway dance forms. Jazz dance places a strong emphasis on precision, rhythm, isolation, and individual style. This high-energy class is perfect for all dancers ages 8-12 who love to move!

Pre-Professional School Program

The Pre-Professional School Program provides a comprehensive curriculum of classes and performance opportunities for students with the goal of preparing them for a career in professional dancing. Students will train in a classical ballet curriculum based on the foundation of Balanchine, Vaganova, and Cecchetti techniques to ensure that our dancers have a wide range of knowledge in the world of ballet. Beginning in Ballet III, students will attend supplemental classes including Contemporary, Spanish, History, Music, French, Pas de Deux, Repertoire, and Mat Conditioning. A placement audition class is necessary for enrollment. Each student is invited to take a free placement class. Students in this program are required to attend all of the scheduled classes for their level. All performance fees are included in the tuition for Ballet III & up.

Primary Ballet I

Ages 6-7

In Primary Ballet I, students will continue learning basic fundamentals of ballet taught in Pre-Ballet, using proper French names, and principally focusing on the posture of the body in general; particularly the feet, legs, back, head, and arms to achieve healthy positioning. New movements consist of challenging port de bras (arm movements), tendus, plies, degages and traveling exercises. If your child is excited about ballet this is the class for them! Placement is required for all students.

Upper Ballet IV

Ages 11-12

In Upper Ballet IV, students develop a new mindset of pre-professional ballet training, focusing their attention on strengthening their bodies for pointework. Students will take on a more demanding schedule and will master skilled steps such as developpe and pirouettes.  Placement is required for all students.

Ballet II

Ages 7-8

Ballet II class continues instilling the basic fundamentals of ballet knowledge taught in Primary Ballet I, while further developing students’ ballet technique. At this stage, students will begin to live the experience of executing the future structure of the academic training class. New movements consist of challenging port de bras (arm movements), tendus, plies, degages and traveling exercises. If your child is excited about ballet this is the class for them! Placement is required for all students.

Upper Ballet V

Ages 13-14

The main objectives of Upper Ballet V are the growth and emphasis on expressiveness with greater complexity of technical combinations in different musical rhythms. In addition to Spanish, Contemporary, and Conditioning classes, students will also begin taking Music and French.

Ballet III

Ages 9-10

In Ballet III class, students will refine the current knowledge and technique taught in Ballet II, while advancing in their control and coordination. Students will gain strength and stamina, all while mastering more challenging steps. Exercises at this level will focus on combination of legs and arms, progressing gradually in technicality and musicality as the class progresses. Students in Ballet III and up will take additional classes in Spanish, and Conditioning. This is also when students will take a Pre-Pointe class in preparation to go en pointe. Placement is required for all students.

Upper Ballet VI

Ages 15-18

In Upper Ballet VI, students cultivate a deeper appreciation for the dedication and passion it takes to endure pre-professional ballet training. Upper Ballet VI students will begin to feel more body awareness in perfecting their technique and pointe work. Students are expected to maintain overall physical strength, retain and apply corrections, and maintain an open and positive attitude while at ECB. Students at this stage will receive additional training in Art History, The Ellové Technique®, Repertoire, Pas de Deux, Pointe, Conditioning, and Contemporary Dance. Placement is required for all students.

Open Ballet Program

The Open Ballet Program provides high quality dance instruction while providing flexibility 

on the number of classes the student attends per week. Tuition is based on the number of classes a student will attend per week, and a minimum number of ballet classes is recommended per level for the student to achieve the needed progress. Students in the Open Ballet Program are encouraged to participate in performances (additional Performance Fees apply to all levels). A placement audition class is necessary for enrollment. Each student is invited to take a free placement class.

Ages 6-7
